January is for Warm Soup, Fresh Starts & Cozy Living

โ›„๏ธ Happy January!

I love the promise of a fresh new year ahead, donโ€™t you?

It feels like an opportunity to let go of the past, wipe the slate clean, and look forward with anticipation.

๐Ÿ““ One of my favorite annual rituals is to jot down some hopes, goals, and dreams for the year ahead in a cheap notebook.

I also spend some time meditating and praying about a single word that might represent my intention for the year. Do you do this, too?

(For your inspiration, you can read some list of words here and here.)

I love the word that has bubbled to the top while doing this exercise.

๐ŸŒฑ My theme word for 2025 is: flourish.

Flourish means "to grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment."

๐Ÿก Changes Ahead

If all goes according to plan, at some point during this year we will move from this house and the neighborhood we have loved for 21 years.

I hope to relocate closer to my parents, so that we can spend more time together.

There are a lot of unknowns and variables ahead, which is not easy for someone like me who is a Type A and likes to feel in control.

๐ŸŒป What a joy to imagine that we might not just survive the uncertainties of this year, but that we might actually flourish and grow in our new location.

How About You?

If you choose a word for the year, or if you have plans to share, I would love to hear from you!

Hit "reply" and drop me a note.

Wishing you a sparkling new year filled with hope and adventures,

๐Ÿ˜€ Not everyone wants to embrace January's nice, cozy qualities. Check out cartoonist Roz Chast's funny January calendar for The New Yorker.
